{un}bridal session

I can't totally pretend that I am going to completely resurrect this blog, I will try to post more of my favorite for me images here.

I am now spending a ton of time shooting for others but during every session, my goal is to shoot at least one series that are completely (un)commercial and more me.

This entire session was very (un)bridal. This is Amanda who is already married, but never had the opportunity to do a bridal session, so we thought it would be fun to do something different and little edgy. I wanted something almost high fashion, but I am not completely sure if I accomplished that.

I started POD strong way back in January, I thoroughly enjoyed the project and the challenge, but somewhere along the way my enthusiasm has wanned.

As some of you may know, I began PB'ing at the beginning of summer, and now photography has taken on a life of it's own. My goal for POD was to use my personal pics, but now it seems I am only taking out the camera for clients (wow it feels weird just typing that word). And while the boys are thankful for the break, my poor blog and project are suffering! So I will start trying to post, even if it's not a personal pic.

Now after that long winded diatribe, here are a few pics from a wedding a couple of weeks ago, I was a second shooter. CC welcomed always!

Well today he went to Kindergarten! I can't believe how fast the time has flown by. My baby is now a kid. A school kid at that.

When I asked Caleb what he thought of his first day of school, his response...."it was okay, but we didn't get to play at all". No son that's what happens, as you get older......the really cut back on all of your play time.

Lazy Days of Summer

It's been forever since I was just a MWAC and snapped a few pictures of my kids...yesterday I set out to do just that.
I set up the sprinkler for them to run through since they always beg me to do it whenever I water the grass. Wouldn't you know it the 2 smaller ones thought the water was too cold and didn't wanna play, but my oldest who I rarely get pictures of was game! Judging from him, I'd say the little ones missed out!
All were taken with my 85mm with varying shutters...feel free to CC.

Sweet Couple....my first engagement type session!

This couple is already married, but they could not afford a real photographer to do an engagment session or the bridals which is why I did them, she is also the bride from my first bridal session. Anyway, I asked them if I could shoot some engagement photos for practice and they agreed. Here are the few that I have edited so far. I hope they like them.

Also I loved the one of the church....(its the oldest african american church in the city of Houston, that's now been preserved by the heritage society), but I couldn't decide between the black and white or color...please cast votes here...which is better?

Another one from the bridal shoot last week...I kind of took some liberties with this one since it was just a fun pic. While we were in the bar of a resturant we noticed a magazine with a bunch of brides on the cover....we all thought it would make a fun picture.

This conversion is a little different for me...really dark and contrasty. I added some noise, I was shooting at a high ISO since we were in a bar, at night, doing a bridal shoot. Does that paint a picture or what?

Is it all too funky?

Weddings Wedding in the Air.........

Wedding Weddings are everywhere!

It seems that I can't escape weddings and brides the past couple of weeks! I have had 2 bridals portraits sessions, and after tomorrow 2 weddings!

Add to that, one boudoir session, and 3 other sessions scheduled for this weekend oh my word...I am have been busy. But it's been fun.

Here are some bridals from a super cute bride Jennifer...she is the SIL of another local photographer here and she allowed me to tag along with her on her bridal shoot to get some for my portfolio.

This bride was so much fun and up for anything...It was great fun, and after 4 hours and at least 10 different locations....I was beat!

After the Ceremony...
This couple was such a good sport about everything, I swear they held this kiss for a full 2 minutes to make sure we got the picture! My pic didn't come out half as good as the main photographers, because of couse she had the better angle.

On the way from the ceremony to the reception we were walking out to head to the reception when we decided just one more romantic shot by the columns, and what a pleasant surprise it was to discover the light was on. Gave it some drama!

Spring Tee-Ball is Over!

WoW the spring tee ball season is over already!!!! I can't believe how fast it went by. Last year it seemed to drag on forever, but this season, it was over in the blink of an eye.

Yesterday Carson played his best game ever. It was the first game that he walked away with a smile on his face. No sadness or disappointment. I was so happy and proud of him. And Caleb...well he was Caleb, focused on the game, and just happy for the opportunity to play!

It was a disaster for the most part, unhappy baby, pacifier dependent baby, nervous mother, etc. but more than anything it was a learning experience.

Two Emotions....One Photo!

Around his first birthday I weaned Christian from the breast to bottle, and he loves his bottles a lot more than I ever thought that he would. I snapped this today while he was lying in my bed with his bottle. He was enjoying it so much that I almost felt jealous.

So my emotions for the day is BLISS for Christian...and Sadness for me!

Today I learned that Christian did not like the feel of the grass on his bare feet, and that if I put him in the grass I could take his picture without trying to shoot a moving target!

If we dig deep on our intepretation we could say that this is on theme because he certainly looks happy, and that is an emotion!

Yesterday I dressed Christian up in the 1st birthday vest (all three boys have worn that little yellow vest on their first birthday) and re-introduced him to his cake.

Its funny that as much as he likes to eat, he was not into the cake. These were taken with him sitting on top of the island in my kitchen.

My sweet little boy is one years old today...oh how the time flies!

In this picture he is 5 months old, just learning to sit up by himself. The expression on his face is so typical of him...right before he breaks into his sweet yet mischievous grin. Oh I love this little guy!

On Saturday we attended 2 birthday parties, and this a photo from Bailey's 5th birthday Party and this is Bailey, and she is quite the little miracle, at the tender age of 5 she has already had 12 surgeries, and is scheduled to have at least 2 more. But don't you go feeling sorry for Miss Bailey, she is the quite the little firecracker!

This photo is of the kids as they lined up to hit the pinata. It did not come out quite the way that I planned, but not a lot of time to plan out a shot with 20 kids.

Something's Not Right

Carson is my independent child. He wants to do everything himself, including dress himself. And this started long ago, before even turned 2. The funniest thing is that he rarely gets an entire outfit on the correct way. There days when he will put on jeans backwards and have Caleb snap them for him. And the worst part is that he refuses to allow you to change him or fix his clothes for him. So he usually goes the entire day with wonky clothes.

I am very tempted to get him a button that says, "I dressed myself" to explain it.

Anyhoo here's a pic from yesterday of his feet, shoes on the wrong foot. He wore them like that for 1/2 the day and then decided that his feet hurt and therefore he allowed me to switch them around.

So I bet you are wondering how does this relate to the theme...well Christian was a thumb sucker, and while that is not an ideal situation for a parent, it is a life saver at the same time! I swear that sometimes the kid does not need me, because he has that darn thumb, which certainly made life easier as I transitioned to life with three.

I must admit that is an old picture taken a few months ago he has since weaned himself from sucking his thumb, and it probably makes me a bad mother to admit that really miss it, but I do.

Baking Brownies

One of my favorite memories as a kid was my grandma baking something, and then letting me lick the bowl. Yesterday Carson and I baked brownies, and I let him licked the bowl.

I think he enjoyed it.

This challenge was pretty fun and challenging...but I guess that's why it's called a challenge.

All photos were shot in Aperture Priorty Mode at F 2, with ISO set at 800, shutter speeds were all over the place.

Christian loves to play peek a boo! As soon as he catches a glimpes of you looking at him he will cover with anything available, and when you say peek a boo, he just giggles uncontrollably. It's so cute. I swear he may just be the happiest baby I have ever met!

This photo is a little soft, I think that the focus fell on his shirt, but I love his expression anyway. I kept trying to "fix" this one, and it just looked weird and overdone, so I just cropped a little, defogged, sharpened, and ran noiseware. However today I did go all out and did the black border instead of the white one...I know, I am such a rebel!

I actually took this photo (along with a series of others) a couple of weeks ago, but I decided to revisit it for the water theme last week.

It was taken at night in my bathroom, with only the available light, which yielded a really orangy tint. Anyway I worked in the levels and changed the WB and was able to somewhat salvage it. Not that it's a masterpiece, but it at least help me work on my PS skills, which are severely lacking.

I know that this is blown out, but it was a part of my experimenting process!

A combination of bad weather and DH in recovery has kept me and boys stuck inside for what seems like weeks, although it's only been about one week.

In an effort to occupy Carson for a little bit, we had some fun putting together a 10ft long puzzle. He played with his toy, and I played with my new toy...my 85mm lens.

Hopefully the weather will let up soon, and DH will start to feel better so that we can get out of the house and I can get back into the rountine of taking my Pic A Day.

First Steps

Today's photo is not likely to win any awards or anything. But it's a huge milestone for Christian, his first step. Yep ladies and gents, my baby is trying to walk. He's only nine months old, and seems like just yesterday he was born.

Yesterday, I posted the first edit of this picture just so that I could post something, I worked on it a little bit more.

So I am reposting it here to see a side by side comparison.

I boosted the contrast a bit, messed with the levels, and tried to add some saturation to the sky, so that it would not wash out.

Is it too dark now? And does anyone have tips for the PS challenged to improve this photo?

I decided to take a different perspective from the usual swing pictures by laying on the ground behind him to take the picture. The midday sun was not ideal, but Carson didn't really care about that.

The topic of the week is All about Me...

So I will share things about myself through pictures of the things that express who I am.

This photograph falls into the category of weird pictures that I like, but no one else will like. I was taking pictures supstairs of the boys, trying to evaluate how good the light was for pictures, and I snapped this photo of my shadow.

The funny thing is that this photograph is indicative of how I end of in photographs...I am sorta like the Loch Ness Monster, "there are convincing arguments that it exists, but no concrete evidence like a picture" that is me.

I typically favor candid shots of my boys doing what they do. And after growing up with a camera in their faces, they usually don't make eye contact with me, while the camera is in hand.

So this is particularly rare that I caught Carson looking at me long enough for me to snap one.

Rebel Yell

So Christian has discovered his voice, and he spends lots of time squawking and yelling amongst other things. There is nothing technically wonderful about this photo, its even out of focus I think....but it makes me laugh everytime I look at it. So hopefully it will make someone else chuckle too! And please ignore the little booger hanging from his nose...hey boogers happen!

Meeting the Dinosaurs

Today the boys took me and my camera to the Museum of Natural Science, to see the dinosaurs. They were really excited to go until we pulled into the parking lot. Then they got cold feet.

However I was a really bad mother, and I told them that they had to go in since I'd already paid $8 for parking. So after about 10 minutes of pep talks, lots of hand holding, and hugs, they finally agreed to take a peek.

This is the only photo that came out halfway decent, because it was soooooo dark in there.

Hide and Seek

The boys love to play hide and seek from the newly mobile Christian. As I sat on the sofa I caught Caleb peeking out from between the chairs to see if Christian could see him.

I worked really hard on this because it seemed soooooo red with the chairs and his PJ's. And I think it's a little bit soft due to my super slow SS. Oh well they can't all be perfect.

The boys decided to play a game of football. Carson kept getting discouraged because Caleb kept getting the ball from him. I told Carson, just tackle him.

So Carson tackled him, Caleb loved it, I took a picture!
